Why teach ICT discretely and not as an individual subject?

TES wish to incorporate the teaching of ICT in to the Key Stage 3 curriculum rather than teach it as a separate unit, this is in line with the UK's National Strategy (support for embedding ICT across the curriculum) see: Strengthen Pedagogy with ICT initiative.

What are the benefits of teaching in this way?

ICT skills are necessary for many aspects of the modern working environment, and ICT underpins most subjects taught at KS3. Teaching ICT discretely rather than as a separate subject then allows the students to learn more relevant skills and will provide them with a broader variety of opportunities to use these skills.

What should I do now?

If you are a KS3 Teacher at TES then you can book the ICT labs (rooms 1402, 1403, 2306, 2410) and gain additional support from either myself or Jeff Evans to help embed ICT into your curriculum subject.

How many hours of support can we have?

This depends upon the current availability of the ICT staff for the particular week, however, there are 16 periods allocated per teaching week. If we are both not available at the time you wish to use the lab, you are still welcome to book this but we will not be available to support your class. To book the rooms in phase 1 or 2 please go to the home page on Sharepoint, and select the 'Room & equipment reservation system' from the links on the right-hand side of the page.

This is our current combined timetable for December 2007 , when you are selecting a period please ensure that if you require support that you do not select a cross-hatched area on the timetable.
